Services & Rates
For years I have been doing small time consulting work for friends and acquaintances. These are things I do on my own free time, and I do not sacrifice my employment or scholarly duties for these side projects.
Average Rates:
The following are some average rates I charge for various services. Rates may be negotiable depending on requirements, urgency, or constraints. Clients will be expected to pay for equipment costs, and any software/support licenses where applicable.
- Home Computer Networking: $50/hr + equipment costs
- Business Computer Networking: $75-$100/hr + equipment costs
- Windows Repair/Recovery: $50/hr + equipment costs
- Web Development: $50-$100/hr (requirements based)
- Application Development: $75-$150/hr (requirements based)
- Database Application Development: $100-$200/hr (requirements based)
Computer Networking
Wireless or LAN networking. I am capable of setting up all standard wireless networks with various forms of security. I am in the process of training for CISCO certification and can do basic IOS management. I also have experience with linux networking, including IPTables experience and network security.
Windows Repair/Recovery
I have experience with repairing Windows installations from damage caused by viruses, worms, spyware, malware, and hardware failures. I typically operate by doing a data backup VIA bootable Linux CD to a network server. Once the data backup is complete and verified by the user(s), I attempt to repair the solution. In many cases this involves a complete reinstall of Windows followed by a short training lesson in how not to run as Administrator.
Web Development
I currently have 10 years of professional web development experience. Over the years my skills have evolved into the use of professional web standards (W3 compliance), using XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I am able to design easy to use websites, however I do lack the graphic artist design skills to create artwork to compliment a design. I am also proficient with many dynamic web languages, including: PHP, J2EE, ASP.NET and PL/SQL.
While I have web development experience, I do not have advanced web or graphics designer experience. I will be unable to assist with graphics/logo development or advanced visual content such as Flash for a website. However, I do know many skilled web and graphics designers that I can refer such work to, and can work professionally with on a project.
Servers/Hosting Services
I have experience with numerous hosting services. These services include, but are not limited to: Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, FTP Servers, SSH/SFTP Servers, Telnet, Samba, VNC, and NFS. I am capable of assisting with the configuration and use of these services across different platforms.
Application Development
I have 7 years of experience in application development, and 5 years of professional development with a focus in J2EE technology. My skills include: C, C++, Java, SQL, PL/SQL, Python, VB.NET, and C#. For the applications I develop, I require an analysis of the business process, followed by a documented requirements process. Upon evaluation of the requirements, I will require sign-off to finalize the requirements prior to any development. Requested changes after development has begun will require documentation as well as acceptance of changed deadlines when necessary.
Database Management
I am an Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional with 5 years of experience in working with Oracle DBMS systems, ranging from Oracle 9i to 11g. I also have several years of experience in other DMBS systems such as: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server, and Microsoft Access. I follow the best industry practices when developing databases, and focus on the efficiency and normalization of data, as well as the implementation of internal controls with respect to the business requirements.
